welcome to be.yoga ~

Be.Yoga emerged from the Sanskrit word bija meaning
seed or source.

A seed already contains within it what it needs to become.

That idea has always been at the heart of Be.Yoga.

This isn't a place where you are asked to become someone else, or where your body is expected to conform to someone else's idea of what yoga should look like. We begin with who you are, where you are and what you bring with you today.

Because while I certainly love the poses + practices, it's the people in the poses who matter most.

Bodies are different, Lives are different
and both are continually changing.

Our well-being doesn't exist in isolation.
Neither does our practice.

How we move through our inner world influences how we meet the world around us. Through movement, breath, philosophy, inquiry and community, we practice becoming a little steadier within ourselves, even as the outer weather changes.

But I have also come to believe deeply that some of our most meaningful yoga happens when there isn't a yoga mat anywhere in sight. It happens when we leave what is familiar.

When we travel and allow another culture to teach us something about how people live, gather, create, eat, celebrate
and care for one another.

It happens around a table, walking through a village, standing in front of a piece of art, learning someone's story, experiencing a landscape that quiets us, or sharing something we may never have experienced had we stayed within the boundaries
of our everyday lives.

It happens when we move beyond simply observing the world and ask how we might participate in it.

How can we leave a place, a community, another person's life a little better because we were there?

For me, this too is yoga.

Yoga means to yoke • to join • to connect.

The teachings ask us to look inward, but they were never meant to keep us there.

What we discover within ourselves can influence how we meet one another, how we enter communities different from our own, how we care for the places we visit, where we offer our time and resources, and how willing we are to become part of the change we hope to see around us.

That is why be.yoga has grown to include not only time together on our mats, but travel, cultural immersion, service,
learning, giving and community.

For more than half of my life, I have been a student of yoga.
It remains an honor to share the wisdom and teachings passed down to me by my teachers while continuing to study, question, practice, travel, learn and listen myself.

Underneath all of the learning, exploring, practicing and being within, yoga continually invites us back toward something that was there all along.

The seed. The source.
