Cory L. Kern, M.Ed., RYT-200, happened upon her firstYoga class in the early 1970’s, as she was looking for a way to stretch out her body after two decades of intensive Ballet and Modern Dance training. She was fortunate enough to find a class with teachers trained by Swami Satchitananda, who was based in Connecticut at the time, and she became immersed in the study and practice of Integral Hatha Yoga. Over the last 40 years, she has continued to study, practice, and teach Integral Hatha Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Dance, and Pilates – as well as having a 20 year career as a middle school Science and Language Arts teacher and teacher of Gifted/Talented students. Her experience includes training with the Integral Yoga Institute, Jillian Pransky, YogaWorks, and Kripalu. She has taught at many area institutions including her own studio in the 1980’s Moving Union, The Hartford Conservatory, Westminster School, Trinity College, the Greater Hartford Academy of the Performing Arts, Enlightened Way Wellness Center, SoulSpace Yoga & Wellness Center, Be Yoga, as well as at her current studio in Bloomfield, Growing Movement Yoga.
As a dance teacher, Cory specialized in unlocking the special language and forms of movement in order to make them accessible to everyone, and she carries that philosophy into her Yoga teaching. She believes that we are all capable of finding the teacher within to guide us toward increased health, happiness, and serenity.
